Rudy Vallee (1901 - 1986)
(Rudy Vallee and His Coast Guard Band)
(Rudy Vallee and His Connecticut Yankees)
Given name: Hubert Prior Vallee; born in Island Pond, Vermont. Saxaphonist, vocalist, actor, bandleader; on screen, radio and in nightclubs. Very popular personality. Vallee's radio show packed a lot
of punch in the entertainment world, and he often introduced new artists on the air. Being on Vallee's radio show was almost a guarantee of an offer from some radio show or movie studio. Due to the
fact that many nightclubs of the day didn't have sound systems, Vallee took to singing through a megaphone to be heard over the background noise. He is often seen this way in photos of the era.
