John Leslie Coogan, Jr. (1914 - 1984)
One of the earliest child actors in film, Coogan was immensely popular and made more than $4 million during the 1920s. By the time he
was an adult he found that his parents had spent it all. In a highly publicized court case, he sued his parents and found that he had
no rights under the law to money he made as a child. This problem often occurred with child actors. The result was new legislation,
referred to as the Child Actors Bill (the Coogan Act, 1939), which protected child actors from that time forward.
Jackie continued acting upon reaching adulthood.
